I am working on my next attempt to visit Europe, which will most likely be 4/14/2010-4/21/2010 and have run into a quandry.

There’s this band that is based primarily out of the Netherlands called Omnia.  They are very good at what they do and I am a fan.  I checked their show schedule and it looks like they are going to have a theatre show in Bussum in the Netherlands on 4/15 and then they won’t have another show until 4/27(although they might do The Anthinoises, Festival from Wallonia of Celtic Musics & Celtic Cultures, but that isn’t confirmed yet).

So, as Anthinoises hasn’t been confirmed(and I won’t want to add a country and extra days unless Omnia is playing) I might have to decide if I want to spend more time in Amsterdam, see Omnia, and cut out Iceland(or put the Iceland weekend at the tail end), or stick with my original plan which is arrive in Iceland on 4/14, leave on 4/17 for Amsterdam and return to the US on 4/21.

So, here are the pros and cons so far.

Reykjavik

Pro: I already have a good idea of what’s going on.  I know what I would be doing, where to eat, and might even be able to set up a tour of the city and/or meet up with people for drinks and mayhem.

There is usually something happening at Reykjavik.  I don’t know what just yet but something.

I still haven’t done the whole “Iceland nature” thing and I’m told I should.

Those damned seductive public pools.

Con: It’s really expensive to do stuff in Reykjavik.

My liver barely survived the last trip.

It is possible that there won’t be anything going on that weekend in Reykjavik.

Icelanders(including those people I correspond with) have enough to deal with in regards to the Kreppa.  I always worry about asking too much of them(it’s a southern United States thing).

Amsterdam:

Pros: More filthy reefer addict time.

I might actually be able to do some tourist stuff.

I do want to see if Omnia is as good live as I’ve heard.

It will be cheaper than staying in Reykjavik.

Cons: I don’t know if I want that much filthy reefer time.  As I have learned through my reading of the Amsterdam Coffeeshop Directory I am pretty low on the “viper index”. 

Omnia theatre shows require a lot to go see.  The level of travel manuvering is pretty complex.

I’d have to really hit the ground running and would have a bit less than 24 hours to begin my adventure.

I’m not sure that Amsterdam will have things happening 4/16 onwards.

So(as I actually am sending this out to Reykjavik and Amsterdam lovers), here is the question I have for you.

What pros and cons did I miss for either place?

It is also meant as place to put my thoughts re; Iceland without driving my friends insane.  Seriously.  It’s pretty bad.
